Our History
October 2nd thru October 4th, 2006 - Plaza Theatre Company begins with a preview production at the Parkside Event Center. For one weekend, PlazaCo presents the Texas comedy THE MAN WITH THE POINTED TOES. The weekend is a great success and demonstrates to Plaza Producers that a live theatre that plays every weekend of the year in the heart of Downtown Cleburne can work.
April 26th, 2007 - With the overwhelming support of the Downtown Cleburne Association, Plaza Theatre Company comes into full-time existence. PTC begins offering live musicals and comedies 52 weeks a year in Downtown Cleburne. The first show is the charming musical YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN. Though audiences are small to begin with, it isn't long before folks in Johnson County take notice of the little theatre-in-the-round in Downtown Cleburne. The theatre is originally built into a former gymnasium on Cleburne's Main Street and seats 146 patrons.
April 26th thru December 23rd, 2007 - During the inaugural 2007 Season, PlazaCo plays seven full Main Stage productions. The inaugural season sees Plaza play to over 10,000 patrons and build a Season Subscriber list of almost 150. The season's final production, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, sees Plaza audiences grow to the point of being PTC's first continual sell-out performances.
Summer 2007 - Plaza Academy, PTC's youth acting class, is launched. The Academy offers instruction in vocal performance, dance (jazz, ballet, tap), musical theatre and acting.
Summer 2007 - Lolly-Pup's Roundup, Plaza's children's Theatre launches. The Roundup is performances geared towards young children that are designed to be their first live theatrical experience. Children get to interact with the characters on stage while enjoying a 40 minute performance.
January 1st thru December 23rd, 2008 - The 2008 Season is the first full year of plays offered at Plaza. 2008 sees Plaza audiences continue their remarkable growth. Nearly 20,000 patrons see almost 200 performances presented on the Plaza stage in 2008 and Season Subscribers grow to just over 350 - more than doubling the previous year.
Summer 2008 - Plaza Theatre Company is honored to be named the Reader's Choice for "Favorite Local Theatre" by the readers of the Fort Worth Weekly.
August 15th, 2008 - Plaza opens it's doors in it's brand new facility at 111 South Main in Downtown Cleburne. The new theatre seats 156 and offers much nicer facilities to Plaza patrons. The facility, located in the newly renovated Howard and Sherry Dudley Performance Hall, marks a new chapter of comfort for Plaza's growing patronage.
January 1st thru December 23rd, 2009 - PTC makes even greater strides in quality and patronage. The Season Subscriber list grows to just over 700 and over 25,000 patrons came through the doors of Plaza.
March 8th, 2010 - Plaza Theatre Company's production of AIDA is honored at John Garcia's The Column Awards as best non-equity musical of the year. As a whole, Plaza takes home 10 Column Awards for 2009 and receives 32 nominations for several of it's 2009 Productions.
January 1st thru May 24th, 2010 - 2010 starts off with even greater success at PlazaCo. The Season currently boasts 800 Season Subscribers and projects to play for nearly 30,000 patrons by year end.
September 14th, 2010 - The scheduled date for Plaza Theatre Company's annual Season Ticket Appreciation Night. The 2011 Season have been selected and current season ticket holders will receive their 2011 Season Brochure during the Summer of 2010. Season Tickets can be renewed by current Season Ticket holders starting the evening of September 14th, 2010.
With a successful children's theatre in LOLLY-PUP'S ROUNDUP, a well-attended youth acting program in PLAZA ACADEMY and 33 Main Stage productions played to nearly 60,000 patrons, Plaza Theatre Company has grown tremendously in it's first three years and looks to continue living up to the standard as Cleburne's Unsurpassed Family Entertainment Destination.
